4th Sunday of Advent
As we light the fourth Advent candle this weekend we become aware that the birthday of Jesus is very near. The scripture readings that we hear anticipate his birth. How has the birth of Jesus affected the way that we live our lives?

3rd Sunday of Advent
This weekend we are celebrating the Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete “rejoice” Sunday) and thus, we are lighting the rose colored candle. Regardless of where our focus has been during the first part of this Advent season, we each have a choice to make today. Going forward, are we going to intentionally make our focus Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ truly is the source of true and lasting joy! He indeed is the reason for us to rejoice!

2nd Sunday of Advent
Three themes of hope, harmony, and peace are found in the Advent scripture readings this weekend. The Catholic Church offers a sacrament of repentance known as penance, reconciliation, or confession. Through this sacrament God gives us the grace to become sources of hope, harmony, and peace in our world. Are you willing to express your repentance through the sacrament or in some other way during this Advent Season? I hope you will join us for reconciliation at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Thursday, December 19th at 7 pm.

1st Sunday of Advent
This is the first weekend of Advent. The readings this weekend tell us to PREPARE. As we are “running around” the next four weeks putting up decorations, shopping for gifts, sending out cards, preparing food, and attending Christmas concerts and socials, the Advent candles can remind us of the spiritual PREPARATION that can and should be a part of our lives in these days leading up to Christmas. As the lyrics of a popular song puts it, “It is better to light just one little candle than to stumble in the dark.” Can you and your family do that during the Advent Season?
